Flatbread pita

Ingredients
-
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon instant yeast
1 cup warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil
Extra flour for dusting
Directions
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix well.
Add the warm water and olive oil, then stir until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Cover and let the dough rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Divide the dough into equal portions and roll them into balls.
Flatten each ball into a round disc using your hands or a rolling pin.
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook each flatbread for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and puffed.
Variations
Add garlic powder, dried herbs, or spices to the dough for extra flavor.
Use whole wheat flour instead of white flour for a healthier option.
Fill the dough with cheese, vegetables, or minced meat before cooking.
Brush with butter or olive oil and sprinkle sesame or nigella seeds after cooking.
Tips
Use warm—not hot—water to avoid killing the yeast.
Do not skip the resting time; it’s essential for soft texture.
Keep the skillet hot but not too high to prevent burning.
Cover cooked flatbreads with a clean towel to keep them soft and warm.
